SELFGUIDED BIKETOURING vs. ORGANIZED CYCLING TOURS

HOW TO TRAVEL BY BICYCLE

SELFGUIDED BIKETOURING vs. ORGANIZED CYCLING TOURS

Organized bicycle trips have the advantage that you can focus on enjoying the journey without thinking about the logistics of the trip, accommodations or meals. The main disadvantage is usually a higher cost and less flexibility to choose the departure date.

Self-guided cycle tours are more difficult and demanding, since you will have to plan all the details of the trip if you do not want to suffer unforeseen events. This type of adventure will give you a more realistic learning and experience at a lower cost.

COMPARISON OF BICYCLE TRIPS

GUIDED CYCLING TOUR VS. SELF-GUIDED BIKETOURING

Choosing a type of cycling tour depends on several factors. Some of these factors could be your available time, your personal finances and your expectations regarding comfort and safety during the trip. There is no ideal modality. Each one must choose according to their possibilities and preferences. We will focus on 5 features and compare them so you can decide which is the best biketrip for yourself.

The features we analyze are: Riding style, typical day, flexibility and budget, aditional activities and support.

GUIDED TOUR

RIDING STYLE

Riders tend to stick together as a group with the guide. There are predefined regroup and rest stops. The guide sets the pace and points out warnings, curious facts and points of interest during the ride.

TYPICAL DAY

Each day has a schedule that must be met. There is a time for breakfast, lunch and dinner. At the end of each stage we stop at hotels or cabins. Everything is organized so that the participants are comfortable and well fed during the trip.

FLEXIBILITY AND

Departure dates and the duration of the journey are specified in our tour calendar. Less variety of routes available. The cost is higher, compared to a self-guided trip. You will share the experience with people from different countries.

ADITIONAL ACTIVITIES

Guided tours may have additional and complementary activities. Our Manso Valley Multiadventure tour includes rafting for example. We also organize short treks to get to know each place in depth.

SUPPORT

The guide and tour assistant will take care of mechanical breakdowns and medical emergencies. The vehicle can carry passengers who are unable to ride. The truck also carries first-aid kit, fresh fruit, water and spare parts for the bikes.

SELF-GUIDED TRIP

RIDING STYLE

You travel alone at your own pace. You can decide when to stop and the duration of your breaks. You can download GPX file and points of interest to your phone so you don’t miss anything or get lost during your journey.

TYPICAL DAY

You must plan your meals, your daily routine and where to sleep each night. You can sleep in a tent or in cabins. If you are going to ride a desolate route, it is advisable to take food, camping gear and cooking items on the bike.

FLEXIBILITY AND BUDGET

You have flexibility to choose the departure date, route, and days of duration. You can organize the stages as you like. It is cheaper than a guided tour, since you don’t have to pay for a support vehicle or guide. Selfguided cycling trips are more demanding and solitary.

ACTIVITIES

If you are traveling alone, we can recommend additional tours and activities that you can do on your trip. You must download the GPX file on your phone to obtain information of your route.

SUPPORT

We provide you with tools for basic repairs. You can call our emergency number and we will give you instructions and assistance if needed. You have to bring a first-aid kit, and you should not take unnecessary risks, since you are traveling alone.
